About Portland Posy
Portland Posy is a flower, plant, and home goods shop located at 10879 SE Main St in downtown Milwaukie, Oregon. We grow many of our flowers just a mile from our shop!
In my early twenties I had a small gardening design business in California but decided to pack up my shovel and pruning shears and get into the film industry. I worked as a Post Production Producer for 15 years and gardening became my weekend therapy.
In 2010 my husband and I moved to Portland Oregon, my husband's home town. I was so excited to leave my stressful career and start a new chapter of my life. I fell in love with Portland immediately. I knew this was the place where I could get back to nature and hopefully find some land and have the farm I had always dreamed of.
In 2017 I made the decision to become a flower farmer. I bought every book I could get my hands on to educate myself, ordered way to many seeds, and dug in. At the end of 2018 I decided to open a brick and mortar shop to sell my local blooms and plant starts and provide workshops to educate the community in all things flower and plant related.
I have had a love affair with flowers ever since I was two years old. I remember my mom and I would spend countless hours toiling in the Colorado soil. Most of my deep emotional childhood memories involve some sort of plant or flower. The scent from a tomato plant sends me reeling back to a time from my youth. Or a prick from a rose thorn that's totally worth it just to breath in it's heady perfume.
I truly believe flowers can be therapy. They are not only beautiful to look at but the intoxicating smell can evoke so many wonderful memories of time gone by. This is commonly referred to as the Proust phenomenon, after French writer Marcel Proust. In his famous novel In Search of Lost Time, the narrator dips a Madeleine cookie into a cup of tea and is transported back into time, as long-forgotten memories of his childhood come flooding back. If you've ever had this happen to you, you know how incredibly powerful it can be.
We are so excited to grow flowers for our shop and our community! Make sure to follow us on Instagram or Facebook to see what we are up to.
